  • Which is the cost of living in Barcelona for a student?

Everything you need to know about the cost of living in Barcelona for a student if you are thinking of doing an academic year in Barcelona

Living in Barcelona is a great attraction for foreign students looking for a great experience outside their countries. And that is why the capital of Catalunya is home for a large number of young university students every year, from all corners of the world, anxious to acquire new academic knowledge and experience to the fullest all that Barcelona has to offer. However, one of the first big unknowns they face is the one related to the economic issue. Before starting on this great university adventure, it is necessary to investigate, carefully and in depth, everything about the cost of living in Barcelona for a student.

They say that living in Barcelona is nice but usually expensive, from there the famous phrase: “Barcelona es bona si la bossa sona However, today at Xior The Lofttown we want to show you that this does not always have to be true, since we know the city perfectly and all the secrets it hides. For that reason, today we share an interesting post where we tell you, in great detail, what the cost of living in Barcelona really is for a student and how you can find great opportunities that will turn your student season into a totally accessible and unforgettable experience. Here we answer the most common questions our college residents face each year.

    Where can I live?

When you move to a new city, finding the ideal place to live is not an easy task. Especially if we take into account that you are still a student and usually depend directly on your parent’s budget that they give to you with so much effort. Therefore, as in any part of the world, you should know that the cost of housing, for renting a flat or a room in a university residence, will consume most of your academic budget. Of course, everything will depend on the amount of money you want to use in your accommodation and define what your personal priorities are.

Our recommendation is that you always choose an option that provides you with the greatest comfort and security at all times. It should be noted that in Barcelona you can find many apartments to rent and rooms to share in a student flat. However, keep in mind that an investment that will take most of your budget deserves to be well thought out and, above all, has to meet your expectations in all aspects.

Although it is true, there is a big difference between renting an apartment on your own and sharing one with several other people, which at first sight seems to be the most viable option, we assure you that in both cases the responsibility, the procedures, the waiting and the inconveniences can be far from the great calm that university residences offer you, for example. In general, the costs of renting an apartment or sharing is between € 500 to € 1000, depending on the neighborhood you prefer and the number of people living in the same apartment. But if you think carefully and compare with all the advantages that a university residence offers you, the differences will be huge.

At XIOR THE LOFTTOWN we are more than a student residence and we have all the services you need to make your stay in Barcelona absolutely wonderful. For this reason, we offer you a spacious and modern space with all the comforts you can imagine so that your days in Barcelona are always the best. In this way, we help you both in your academic development and in your deserved breaks, making you only worry about your academic homework and, of course, enjoying the city to the fullest. Do not forget that we will take care of everything.

    How to move?

Barcelona is a very interesting city where there is always something new to see. If you want to move around the city, with total comfort, you will have to be faithful to your own style. The fact is that Barcelona is so well connected in every way that there is no ideal means of transport designed for students. If you want to discover every corner of the city and do exercise at the same time, perhaps the ideal thing for you is to walk every day through the streets of Barcelona. On the other hand, if jogging is not your priority, you can always choose for the multiple options of public transport services that the city offers. Next, we explain each of them and their respective costs:

    Bicing

The public bike service has more than 500 stations strategically distributed throughout the city and has a network of exclusive tracks of more than 200 kilometers. We could say that its cost is really accessible if we consider that for an annual payment of € 50 you will always have a bicycle at your disposal for 30 minutes at a time. Without a doubt, it is an ideal option for young students who want to combine physical exercise and get to know the city every day outdoor.

    Rental motorcycles

Barcelona has a lot of options of companies that rent motorcycles and scooters by the minute and at a very good price. If you want to take some deserved walks throughout the city, or you just don’t like to go by public transport, rental motorcycles are an effective option so that your trips are fast and also sustainable, since most of them are electric.

    Bus, metro and tram

Public transport in Barcelona is really efficient. Not only because is a very well-connected system, but also because the prices are not very expensive compare to other European cities. If you plan to use them once in a while, this route may not be your best option. But if you plan to use them daily, our recommendation is that you buy a monthly ticket, that will be much cheaper that short term tickets.

And when do you play fun or sports?

Being a student in Barcelona will awaken your creativity to 100%. And we are not only referring to artistic or bohemian themes, but also, having a limited budget, the options for having fun are so many that you do not need a large investment to have a really great time. For example, if you like culture and art remember that every first Sunday of the month all the museums in Barcelona are free. Also, there is a wide range of activities for young people with great discounts in theater, cinema, restaurants, bars, sporting events, among others.

There are groups of young people who take sightseeing tours around the city or organize excursions outside of Barcelona at a fairly reasonable price. Without a doubt, a smart way to have fun to the fullest, meet new places and friends without spending more than necessary. On the other hand, Barcelona is a city where sport is practiced daily in each of its corners. Although the city has a wide range of private gyms, there are also groups of young people who practice sports outdoor and constantly carry out competitions, whether on the beach, parks or municipal sports fields, reasons that will help you to sport becomes a true lifestyle for you.

At XIOR THE LOFTTOWN we organize social and sporting events so that our young residents enjoy their free time with us. At the same time, we put at your disposal special areas for the practice of sport, such as an outdoor gym and an exclusive solarium area, which will help you live your stay in our residence with absolute comfort.
